Influenza-like cases still on the increase
In early January, an increase was observed in the number of people visiting their doctor with influenza-like illness (ILI.). During the last two weeks, from 17–30 January (week 3 and 4), the number of cases was similar between weeks, but it is too early to predict whether the peak of the influenza has been reached.Read more

More on narcolepsy and vaccination against influenza H1N1 (swine flu)
According to a news release from Finnish officials, Pandemrix vaccination in children may be associated with narcolepsy. The Chief Epidemiologist in Iceland wants to emphasize that this association has only been seen in Finland but not in Iceland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark or any other country where the vaccine has been used.Read more

Seriously ill patient suffering from swine flu is presently being treated at the intensive care unit of Landspitali University Hospital
Yesterday, on 19 January, a woman 30 years of age was admitted to the intensive care unit of Landspitali University hospital with serious symptoms due to the swine flue. The patient who was not vaccinated against this influenza has an underlying risk factor but was healthy before the illness.Read more

Influenza is spreading
During the last three weeks, ten individuals in Iceland had confirmed influenza-like illness (ILI). Eight had influenza H1N1 (swine flu), one had influenza H3 and one influenza B. The number of individuals diagnosed clinically with ILI is also increasing.Read more

Vaccinations for the general public expected to start in late November
Presumably, vaccinations for the general public against the A(H1N1)v 2009 influenza will start earlier than expected, i.e. in the second half of November instead of December. The reason is that more vaccine is being imported in the coming days and weeks than originally assumed.Read more

An 18-year old girl with multiple disabilities died yesterday morning from influenza A(H1N1)v 2009 in the Children’s Hospital at Landspitali University Hospital (LUH). She fell ill 11 days earlier and was admitted to hospital last Thursday.Read more

Most confirmed cases of influenza A(H1N1) in Europe reported in Spain
On 6 May 2009, confirmed cases of influenza A(H1N1) totalled 1.652 in 22 countries, an increase of 380 from the day before, according to information from ECDC. As before, the biggest increase in confirmed cases was reported in Mexico, USA and Canada, with deaths from the disease believed to be 30, 29 of which were reported in Mexico.Read more
