Advice to defer travel to Mexico cancelled and precautionary measures at Keflavik Airport reduced
According to information from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, 7.743 confirmed cases of influenza A(H1N1) had been reported in 34 countries this morning. By far the greatest number of cases is reported in the USA, or 4.298, including probable cases of influenza.
The number of confirmed deaths from the influenza A(H1N1) is now 69, the largest number reported in Mexico, or 64, three in the USA, one in Canada and one in Costa Rica.
So far, no cases of the influenza A(H1N1) have been diagnosed in Iceland and nobody has been admitted to the Landspitali University Hospital with influenza-like illness.
The current level of preparedness remains unchanged in Iceland. However, the Icelandic health authorities have decided to cancel their advice to defer travel to Mexico since the influenza A(H1N1) outbreak is slowing down in that country
As the influenza infection seems to be mild there is no special reason to try to prevent its outbreak in Iceland. For that reason, the health care service at Keflavik Airport will be reduced as of 15 May 2009 to on-call service only.
