Samples from six cases suspected of influenza A (H1N1) proved negative
Results from laboratory investigations of samples taken last Friday and Saturday from individuals suspected of being infected with influenza A(H1N1) proved negative. The people concerned were all related to the individual diagnosed with influenza A(H1N1) on 23 May. The health of all six family members will be closely monitored in the coming days. Apart from that, no further measures will be taken.
The level of preparedness in Iceland remains the same as before, at Phase 4, according to the Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Plan for Iceland.
Notices concerning influenza preparedness measure will be issued on www.influensa.is, in both Icelandic and English.
12.500 confirmed cases of influenza A(H1N1) worldwide
According to information from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control this morning, the number of confirmed influenza A(H1N1) cases is now 12.501, reported in 46 countries, The majority of these cases is reported in the USA, or 6.552, including probable cases of influenza.
Confirmed deaths from influenza A(H1N1) have now reached a total of 91, most of them reported in Mexico, or 80. Nine deaths from the influenza have been confirmed in the USA, one in Canada and one in Costa Rica.
