Influenza pandemic response plans to be discussed at 15 regional meetings across Iceland
Representatives for the Chief Epidemiologist for Iceland and the Civil Protection Department of the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police will hold 15 meetings across the country in June with community leaders and health-care personnel to discuss regional response plans for an influenza pandemic. The purpose of the meetings is to coordinate regional and national measures in case of a severe influenza A(H1N1) pandemic. The regional plans are expected to be ready by 1 September 2009.
Influenza A(H1N1) continues to spread all across the world. The total number of cases reported today are 19.159, of which 605 are reported in EU/EFTA countries.
Confirmed deaths from the disease have now reached 117, 97 of them reported in Mexico, 17 in the USA, two in Canada and one in Costa Rica.
- Only one case of influenza A(H1N1) has been confirmed in Iceland.
- The level of preparedness in Iceland remains unchanged.
- So far, the World Health Organization has not raised its level of preparedness to Phase 6, the pandemic phase.
