Third case of influenza A(H1N1) diagnosed in Iceland
The third case of influenza A(H1N1) in Iceland was diagnosed yesterday evening. The case concerned involves the wife of the man diagnosed with the disease the day before yesterday as reported yesterday morning by the Chief Epidemiologist and the Civil Protection Department of the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police.
It is believed certain that the couple were both infected in the United States. They returned from there a week ago, on Wednesday, 3 June, and fell ill shortly afterwards, although not seriously.
All three cases reported in Iceland so far have involved persons arriving from the US. At this point, however, transmission between people in Iceland has not occurred.
· ECDC reports today that 26.744 cases of influenza A(H1N1) have now been confirmed in the world, 1.348 of them are reported in EU/EFTA countries.
· Deaths from influenza A(H1N1) are now 140, of which 106 have occurred in Mexico and 27 in the US and 4 in Canada.
