Vaccination against cervical cancer (HPV) starts in Iceland in September 2011
Vaccination against HPV infections in Iceland starts during the latter half of September 2011. During the winter 2010/2011 girls born in 1998 and 1999 will be offered the vaccination but in the future 12-year old girls will be vaccinated annually. The vaccine Cervarix will be used and a complete vaccination includes three injections distributed over 6–12 months.Read more

Public Health Institute of Iceland incorporated into the Directorate of Health
On 1 May 2011, the Public Health Institute of Iceland was incorporated into the Directorate of Health in accordance with new legislation, Act No. 28/2011, which entered into force on that day. Until further notice, the Directorate of Health will operate from two offices.Read more

New Competent Authority for Medical Devices
As of 1 May 2011, the Icelandic Medicines Agency (IMA) has replaced the Directorate of Health as the Competent Authority for Medical Devices in Iceland.Read more
